Well, in keeping with my journey to cleaner/green living I recently came across
more earth friendly ways to wrap Mother's Day gifts. Did you know that most gift-wrap sold in the US cannot be recycled because of non-biodegradable components that are added to the paper to give the paper its shiny, flashy look-- which means most gift wrapping paper is not biodegradable.
Wrappily - "Wrap, Rip, Recycle"
I found a great new company that offers gift wrap for any occasion using eco-friendly recycled newsprint. Wrappily is a company based in Maui. Wrappily was founded in 2013 by Sara Smith. She credits her father for exposing her to the printing industry and old-fashioned printing presses. Sara realized there was a problem when she looked around her own home and saw it had become overrun with used gift wrap because it could not be recycled. Sara vision for Wrappily, "to answer a global need for a smarter, more sustainable gift wrap."
A few important facts according to Wrappily's website:
"Wrapping paper and shopping bags account for over 4 million tons of trash annually in the US alone"
"Over the holidays, about 227,000 miles worth of wrapping paper gets thrown away -- enough to circle the world 9 times!"
Wrappily offers a large variety of gift wrap for any holiday. For Mother's Day I love their Enchanted Garden/Wonderland Designer Gift Wrap (6 Sheet Value Pack) - Reversible - Eco-Friendly Wrapping Paper for only $15. To purchase, go here.
Another great Eco-friendly option for wrapping your Mother's Day gift is pre-seeded wrapping paper by: Triumph Plant Company -- Pre-Seeded Wrapping Paper -
"Wrap it, plant it, and watch it grow!
Their pre-seeded wrapping paper comes in three different colors (lavender, baby blue and ivory) and each is pre-seeded with wildflower seeds, enough to wrap eight shirt boxes. This kit also includes raffia and gift cards.
"Wrap it, plant it, and watch it grow!" What a better idea since my Mom loves to garden, why not wrap her gift in pre-seeded paper.
More About Triumph Plant Company
Triumph Plant Company has been in the gardening industry for over 40 years and sells the pre-seeded wrapping paper by Little Kay Gardens through Amazon. In 2018, they joined Enroot Products, LLC, and they are collaborating to design "...innovative gardening solutions."
Enroot also offers SpongeEase Coir Products - potting soil made from coconut husk fibers, when wet expands five times its size and creates the perfect potting soil. This soil is light and will allow vital oxygen and water to get deep down to the roots, while also draining off excess moisture.
Creating a Food Supply for Bees
Enroot and Triumph Plant Company together are committed to creating an environment that promotes bee pollination and hive development. This type of environment includes creating container gardens of flowers that attract bees, which is the bee's food supply, as well as attracting butterflies and song birds. "The flowers are beautiful, and nature is assisted...there's no telling what will happen to the food supply if these pollinators aren't supported."
Two great options for helping the planet with eco-friendly wrapping paper!
Have a very happy Mother's Day!
