My Eyebrows Are Sisters!

"I finally figured out my eyebrows. They're sisters, not twins." This quote came from Broad City Show, and perfectly describes my attempts to create matching eye brows, which never happens!

I had very bushy eyebrows for most of my young life. The summer before my freshman year in high school I worked all summer to buy new cool clothes for school. I remember going to school on the first day to get my photograph taken for my high school student ID card. I was confident that I looked amazing in my new Bobbie Brooks outfit and makeup by Yardley of London, complete with the bright eye shadow, eyeliner and a very pale pink/white lipstick. They called my name and I confidently stepped in front of the camera and had my photograph taken. Up to this point I had not given much thought to what my eyebrows looked like – that was until I actually looked at my Centennial High School student ID card. Ugh!!! I looked like Groucho Marx, without the mustache (Who is Groucho Marx you ask??). My eyebrows had completely grown together forming a bridge over my nose. Why didn't I notice this when I was putting on my makeup? I officially had a thick, black uni-brow!

Even after gasping at my student ID picture, I still went through most of my first year of high school with thick, dark, bushy uni-brows. Towards the end of my freshman year one of my well-meaning friends finally told me that I needed to thin the forest that was my eyebrows. So, after school that same day I went to the drugstore and purchased my first set of tweezers. With tweezers in hand standing in front of the bathroom mirror I proceeded to pluck out most of my eyebrows until what remained were very white patches of skin where the hair had been, and very thin lines of hair remaining directly above my eyelid. At least now the uni-brow was now gone, but also gone were most of my eyebrow hairs.

My eyebrows never grew back to their former thick glory and to this day they remain thin and uneven. It is funny to see as I grow older I now find hair growing in places I do not want, but never on my eyebrows where I need it to grow. I began losing even more of what was left of my eyebrows over the last few years due to an autoimmune disorder. So what's a girl to do?

The Season of the Perfect Brow

I have been desperate to find a brow product that looked natural that I could actually apply myself. Over the years I have purchased dozens of different eyebrow pencils, brushes, gels, pots, and creams. None of the products I tried even came close to creating an eye brow that I felt good about. Even when I had a professional do my eyebrows, they looked fake and not natural. I was just about to give up and get eyebrow tattoos when I discovered Brilliant Brow Gel by Beautycounter.

Brilliant Brow Gel by Beautycounter is the solution to my eyebrow dilemma. There is nothing toxic about the ingredients in this product, with Cocoa Seed Butter, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Jojoba. It also has Carnauba Wax and Sunflower Seed Wax. All of these ingredients work together to give you the perfect finished eye brow.

Do Not Leave Home Without the Perfect Eyebrow

I will no longer leave home without first putting on my eyebrows. My morning routine starts with Beautycounter’s eyebrow pencil in Medium -- drawing in the places where hair no longer grows. I learned a secret to using our eyebrow pencils -- just take the tip of the pencil and warm it up a bit on the side of your hand before applying it to your brow. Once the tip of the pencil is warmed it makes drawing the fine hair like lines on your brows so much easier and it looks very natural. Then I finish my brows with the Beautycounter's Brilliant Brow Gel Light. It also comes in Medium, Dark, Soft Black, and Invisible.

While writing this blog about my eyebrows I decided I would compare Beautycounter’s Brilliant Brow Gel with another popular eyebrow gel. When searching their website, I could not find any ingredient listing for this product. So, I did a search on EWG’s Skin Deep® Cosmetics Database and found it had a score of 6 (individual ingredients rated higher), which means there are moderate risks associated with use of this particular brow gel with respect to cancer, developmental & reproductive and immunology toxicity, allergies, and even organ system toxicity. Another reason why I love Beautycounter - their entire product line rates really well with EWG.

If you are looking to create the perfect brow or simply enhance the amazing brows you already have, be sure to purchase Beautycounter's Brilliant Brow Gel. It is the perfect finish to a beautiful brow!
