Target Now Offers Over 3,000 Clean-Designated Products

Today I decided to head over to my local Target store to see if I could find clean/green products that I could use in my home. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Target offers a large variety of great clean products including organic gummi bears, gluten-free deli meats, grain-free chips, eco-friendly clean personal care, and enzyme-based household products. According to Target's website, they offer over 3,000 clean-designated products in Target stores nationwide. Each section in the store will carry the Target "Clean" green banner or icon next to the price tag for any products that fall under this category.

Beauty and Personal Care Products -- Products with the Target green icon are free of parabens, phthalates, Oxybenzone, triclocarban, BHA, BHT, formaldehyde, triclosan. Deodorants designated clean will be free of aluminum. Oral care with the green icon will be free of artificial sweeteners.

Household Cleaning Products - Products with the Target green icon are free of propyl-parabens, butyl-parabens, formaldehyde, nonylphenol ethoxylates, SLES, hydroquinone, BHA & BHT.

Baby Products - In addition to the ingredients listed above in the Beauty and Personal Care Products, diapers designated with the Target green icon are made without chlorine or added fragrances.

For individuals with sensitivity to corn, be sure to read the full label on each product since corn ingredients can take on many different derivative names on an ingredient list.

I spent about three hours at my local Target on Sunday going up and down each of the aisles carefully reading labels on products that were advertised as clean/green. Most were actually clean products but mixed in the same section were some not-so-clean products (i.e. Mrs. Meyers). The confusing part for any consumer who is not well informed is if the colorful front label says it is "clean" -- you cannot initially trust that it is truly clean. You need to turn the product around and read the back of the label. Here are three of my new favorite clean product finds at Target:

BEAUTY AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

Tenoverten - Non-toxic nail care products that are: 8-free + cruelty free + vegan. Tenoverten has been female-owned for over ten years with a focus on creating healthy, non-toxic products that are "better- for- you." These nail products actually promote stronger, healthier nails. The story goes: "Nadine Abramcyk and Adair Ilinsky saw a void in New York: in a city packed with nail salons...not much existed between high-priced spas and mom-and-pop corner shops...so Tenoverten was born." Their nail polish is only $12. They also offer acetone-free nail polish remover that has rose oil -- leaves your nails soft and nourished. I absolutely love Teoverten!

Every Man Jack began in 2007, by Ritch Viola. He saw that men's grooming products, "...were either too expensive or relied too heavily on chemically driven formulations." So he focused on making clean and affordable men's grooming products. Every Man Jack first partnered with Target to launch their first 15 original products, with the focus on using naturally derived ingredients whenever possible. Every Man Jack also uses at least 50% post-consumer recycled plastic in its products. I just purchased the Every Man Jack shave cream to see if I can convince my hubby to swap out the chemical-laden Gillette shave gel shave cream he insists on using. Worth noting -- Gillette shave gel includes the ingredient fragrance/parfum, which is a big red flag!

HOUSEHOLD CLEANING PRODUCTS

Puracy started about six years ago, when "...two best friends from Austin, Texas started Puracy with a single goal -- to make non-toxic, plant-based cleaning and personal care products that were safe enough to use around their newborn daughters." Their clean products are made from plants, minerals, and water. Puracy products are completely biodegradable. Their website notes each product has a, "...unique formula leaves no residue or lingering scent...tough enough for grease, gentle enough for children...pure enough to naturally recycle in the environment." There is never more than 0.5% of synthetic ingredients in any Puracy product.

Time to Make the Clean Swap

Making the clean swap to clean/green products does not have to be expensive or stressful. I recommend switching one product at a time as you run out with a new cleaner/greener version. I have seen videos where the clean/green team comes into a home and basically tosses everything out they find that they deem is toxic. That is not realistic or financially wise to do unless you have unlimited financial resources or you have suddenly been diagnosed with a serious medical condition that mandates the purging of all toxic products from your home. Again, simply replace one product as you run out with a new cleaner/greener version -- one product at a time.

Stay tuned for more great finds at Target, including Cora feminine products, Rael Organic feminine products, Myro Deodorant, Native bath & body products, Black Forest Organic Gummies, Siete Grain Free Tortilla Chips, Nada Moo coconut milk dairy-free dessert, and Applegate Natural & Organic Meats - just to name a few! Remember Target has over 3,000 clean-designated products to choose from with much more economical pricing. The swap to cleaner products in your home just got easier thanks to Target!
