Why I became a Beautycounter consultant!

When I was first introduced to Beautycounter I never considered the idea that there were toxic ingredients in the skincare products I used. For the most part, I gauged the efficacy of a skincare or cosmetic product based on its cost and where it was sold. I thought if the product was sold at the higher end department stores, it must be better quality. Looking back on my health over the last twenty plus years it began to dawn on me that maybe, just maybe some of the medical issues I have dealt with might be related to the personal care products I was using.
In addition, I have worked over thirty years in the legal profession as a paralegal. Working in medical malpractice arena I became very familiar with the FDA and the process that companies go through to get FDA approval. Some of the cases our firm represented involved individuals who suffered permanent physical impairment or even death as a result of misleading information provided by companies to the FDA. I am sure you have seen commercials on TV regarding drugs previously advertised as safe that are now part of a class action lawsuit. Suffice it to say just because a product is endorsed as safe by the FDA doesn’t mean it truly is.
I was first introduced to Beautycounter about a year ago by both of my daughters. My youngest daughter suffers with Celiac and she was excited to find out that Beautycounter offered products she could use which are gluten free. My oldest daughter is also very passionate about everything makeup and skincare. When I saw the sparkle in her eyes as she spoke about Beautycounter, I knew I needed to attend a social with her. I never really considered becoming a Beautycounter consultant. I was simply going to support my daughter.
At this first Beautycounter social -- I learned that this was much more than an opportunity to make some extra money with a newer skincare line. Beautycounter’s mission, “to get safer products into the hands of everyone.” This message really resonated with me and my personal experience working as a paralegal, given the fact that the FDA is not empowered to regulate the cosmetic and skincare industry. Therefore, as a consumer we are left to our own devices to navigate what is safe and not safe in the personal care products we use. Beautycounter opened my eyes!
Here are my top reasons why I am proud to be part of Beautycounter.
1. Beautycounter is totally transparent when it comes to the ingredients in their products. At last, we have an opportunity with Beautycounter products to make an informed decision, especially when it comes to what we put on our skin – the largest organ in our body. This is why Beautycounter is one of the skincare lines that is EWG Verified.
2. Beautycounter voluntarily made the decision to exclude over 1500 toxic ingredients from their skincare and cosmetics.
3. Beautycounter realizes they cannot offer all of the cleaner personal care products to their clients. As a result, Beautycounter is launching “Clean Slate.” Presently, only available to Beautycounter consultants, Clean Slate will sell additional personal care products from other like-minded companies, including Cote nail products, a more recent collaboration.
4. Beautycounter believes that their message to educate individuals on the importance of cleaner skincare products is best delivered through personal relationships in a direct sales platform. Their products were briefly introduced at Target stores before going to direct sales.
5. Beautycounter is part of a legislative movement in Washington, DC to bring light on the importance of transparency and safety in personal care products. Beautycounter's “cleaner” beauty movement has now prompted many other cosmetic and skincare companies to follow suit.
6. Beautycounter is a Certified B Corporation, which focuses on balancing profits with environmental concerns and sustainability.
7. Beautycounter is a company I can totally get behind. This company is true to their mission. Being a Beautycounter consultant it is much more than just selling skincare and cosmetics. I am creating relationships with amazing individuals who are concerned about what they put on their skin and in their bodies.
8. I also have to thank Beautycounter for introducing the concept of a cleaner, greener attitude in my life overall. The clean/green living journey for me has been quite eye opening. I have become very passionate about the importance of a more sustainable life and looking for products and services that support that vision. The launch of my new blog called “Clean Living by Judith Raye” is the direct result of my involvement in the Beautycounter movement.
Beautycounter Has a New Green Initiative
I was very excited to see on May 20, 2019, that Beautycounter announced their partnership with How2Recycle as part of their launch of a new green initiative - looking for more sustainable ways to reduce Beautycounter's use of plastics and move more towards glass packaging which is easier to recycle. This announcement could not have happened at a better time. I feel Beautycounter's green initiative is totally in line with “Clean Living by Judith Raye.” I really believe that everything happens for a reason and timing is everything.
